The Princess Diana Blouse Made with Lutterloh Sewing System

After watching the Netflix documentary "Diana: In Her Own Words", I was inspired to make a high-neckline blouse that resembled many of the blouses Princess Diana used to wear. 

I used two Lutterloh patterns to make this garment. The first one was from the supplement book 310, pattern number 2. The other was pattern number 229 from the original Lutterloh book. 

I used the supplement pattern for the shirt design. I altered the pattern a little by choosing not to add the hole at the center top. I used the second pattern for the sleeves. 


Step 1: draw and cut out the Lutterloh pattern pieces

Step 2: wash fabric, cut out fabric pieces

Step 3: sew the top shoulders of the blouse right sides together











Step 4: gather sleeves to fit the sleeve holes (about 4 inches). 












Step 5: Sew channel on the bottom of the sleeve about 1-2 inches from the bottom. Don't forget to add a hem. 



Step 6: Sew sleeves on using your preferred method.











Step 7: sew down the sides of the shirt if you haven't already done so.

Step 8: measure your wrist, and sew the sleeve elastic together based on your measurement. This will gather the fabric at the bottom of the sleeves.

Step 9: cut the collar fabric piece out, and use that to sew a channel on the wrong side of the blouse. Pull elastic through, and sew together to desired measurement. Don't forget to add a hem to the collar piece.

Step 10: Hem the bottom








Thoughts on sewing this Lutterloh pattern:

I really enjoyed this process much more that I do traditional pre-made patterns. It's fun to figure things out along the way, and there's no pressure to do everything exactly right. 

For example, I forgot to hem my sleeves and collar, but the fabric I'm using won't fray, and I like the look of it. 

The fabric I used is a jersey knit.

Vintage Lutterloh Pattern Regency Dress

 Vintage Lutterloh Pattern Regency Dress The Inspiration: Bridgerton the Netflix tv show. The pattern inspiration: Butterick 6630 Lutterloh Pattern Used: I do not know what supplement this pattern came from.  Modifictions: I shortened the bodice, lengthened the skirt by three inches, and used the puffy sleeves from the Butterick pattern. I closed the back of the skirt with pleats instead of gathering. Lastly, I added grommet eyelets to fasten the back instead of a zipper.
