2020 Sewing Makes Review

This has been a trying year for many of us, myself included. I did not get to sew as much as I would have liked while having my three-year-old at home full time, but I did get to accomplish, I am very proud of.

First make of 2020:

The first dress I've ever sewed.

I love sewing clothes for my daughter. The pattern pieces are so small, and it feels so quick sewing clothes for her, and as an added bonus, she tends to love anything I sew for her.

I purchased the pattern from etsy. You can find it here.

Pattern Drafted Sweater

I created this sweater from a pajama top pattern, and I drafted the sleeves. This was my 2020 Valentine's Day outfit.

A Little Valentine's Day Dress

With the extra fabric I sewed a little dress for my daughter. I pattern drafted the dress by copying another dress of hers. This was also my first time using tulle.

The Face Mask

I think many people learned how to sew face masks this year. I do not enjoy making face masks. I made a few, but ultimately purchased face masks from my local grocery store and from etsy. The mask pictured below is from my May the 4th be with dress fabric.

May the 4th Be With You

This is the first ever dress I sewed for myself. My goal was to sew this dress in time for May 4th (Star Wars Day), but due to the pandemic and working from home while also being mom and teacher to my toddler, I had very little time for myself and sewing. So I didn't finish this dress till June. Just a month late 😋

The pattern I used for this dress is Simplicity 1800. This was by far the worst written pattern I have ever tried to follow. I am fortunate to have a mom who also sews, and who has many more years of experience than me. I would not have survived this pattern without her. There were some directions that were outright wrong, which is a shame because the pattern is fun and flattering.

If you are brave enough to attempt this pattern you can find it here.

Transformed Stranger Things T-shirt

I was inspired by Coolirpa's perfect dress video to make a puffy sleeve shirt. I used the techniques in the video to make the square neckline and the puffy sleeves. I don't think the dress would be flattering on me, but it does look fun to sew.

Purple & Pink Jacket

This was a fun project I sewed for my daughter. This was the first jacket I've ever sewn, and I felt so fancy sewing the lining. I made the jacket a little big so she can wear it next year too.

I purchased this pattern from etsy here.

Halloween Dress

I have always wanted to make my own Halloween dress. I love this fabric I got from BoltstoBlocks on Etsy. I like the concept of a black and white Halloween dress, and when I found this fabric with black roses, beetles, and moths it felt like the perfect match for what I was looking for.

The dress pattern is Butterick b6556. I slightly modified it, but mostly followed the pattern.

The Lutterloh Children's Christmas Dress

I loved sewing my first Lutterloh pattern. I sewed this dress for my daughter as a practice run to see how much I liked the Lutterloh system. Turns out I enjoy it very much!

I go into detail about this dress, and my review of the Lutterloh system in this video.

The Princess Diana Blouse

I loved sewing this blouse. You can find my detailed blog post here.

The video tutorial for this blouse can be found here.

Preview of Next Project:

I am currently working on sewing a quilted jacket inspired by Wandythemaker.

It is taking me forever to get the pattern pieces together, but I am getting close, and will be able to sew my pieces together soon.

Pattern # 271 - long hooded jacket with large buttons down the front.
